In its financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, Sussex County Council has revealed that total revenues were $114 million compared to expenses of $93 million. The county has seen an increase in employment in the healthcare sector, with healthcare jobs surpassing retail jobs for the first time. The population of the county is now almost 256,000, and building permits have slightly decreased in recent years. Taxable assessed property values currently sit at $4 million, but this is expected to increase dramatically after a new assessment. The general fund relies heavily on tax income, with taxes making up almost 70% of total county revenue.
